Tournament Code of Conduct

The Welland Soccer Club is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and enjoyable tournament experience for all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators participating in the 2026 Wizards Rose Festival & Tournament.

All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values of sportsmanship, integrity, fair play, and respect throughout the tournament weekend.

Participation in the tournament constitutes acceptance of this Code of Conduct.

General Expectations

All participants, including coaches, players, parents, and spectators, are expected to:

  • Treat all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, opponents, and spectators with respect at all times.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship both on and off the field.
  • Respect tournament staff, facilities, equipment, and property.
  • Follow all tournament rules, Ontario Soccer policies, and FIFA Laws of the Game.
  • Support a positive environment focused on player development, enjoyment, and fair competition.
  • Refrain from any form of harassment, bullying, discrimination, intimidation, or abusive behavior.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants.

Coaches Code of Conduct

Coaches are leaders and role models for their players and supporters. Coaches participating in the tournament are expected to:

  • Lead by example through respectful and positive behavior.
  • Treat referees, tournament staff, opposing teams, and spectators with professionalism and respect.
  • Never ridicule, intimidate, or verbally abuse players, officials, or spectators.
  • Maintain control of their bench personnel and team spectators.
  • Encourage fair play and good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Provide equal encouragement and support to all players.
  • Communicate with players, parents, and officials respectfully and constructively.
  • Cooperate fully with tournament officials and referees.
  • Ensure players and team staff adhere to tournament rules and policies.

Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their players, bench personnel, and team spectators.

Any coach dismissed from a match may be subject to additional disciplinary action and may be prohibited from participating in future tournament matches.

Players Code of Conduct

Players are expected to represent their team, club, and community with pride and respect.

Players participating in the tournament are expected to:

  • Play by the rules and within the spirit of the game.
  • Respect teammates, opponents, coaches, referees, and tournament staff.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship regardless of the score or outcome.
  • Accept referee decisions without argument or abusive behavior.
  • Refrain from fighting, taunting, profanity, or unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Work hard for themselves and their team while valuing effort, teamwork, and respect.
  • Support fellow teammates positively and respectfully.
  • Help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.

Any player displaying violent conduct, abusive language, discriminatory behavior, or serious misconduct may be removed from the tournament and subject to further discipline.

Parents & Spectators Code of Conduct

Parents and spectators play an important role in creating a positive tournament atmosphere.

Parents and spectators are expected to:

  • Encourage and support all players in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrate respect toward coaches, referees, volunteers, tournament staff, and opposing teams.
  • Never ridicule, harass, or yell at players, coaches, or officials.
  • Refrain from coaching players from the sidelines.
  • Respect referee decisions and understand that officials are doing their best to manage the game fairly.
  • Help maintain a family-friendly and welcoming environment.
  • Avoid the use of offensive, abusive, discriminatory, or threatening language.
  • Follow directions provided by tournament staff and field marshals.

Parents and spectators may be removed from the facility or tournament grounds for inappropriate behavior.

Teams may also face disciplinary action as a result of the conduct of their spectators.

Referee & Tournament Official Respect

Referees and tournament officials are essential to the success of the event and must be treated with respect at all times.

Abuse, harassment, intimidation, or threatening behavior directed toward referees or tournament staff will not be tolerated.

Serious misconduct may result in:

  • Removal from the tournament grounds
  • Suspension from tournament participation
  • Reporting to the team’s home club, district association, or Ontario Soccer
  • Additional disciplinary action and/or fines where applicable

Discipline & Tournament Authority

The Welland Soccer Club Tournament Committee reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any individual, team official, player, parent, or spectator who violates this Code of Conduct.

Possible disciplinary actions may include:

  • Verbal warnings
  • Removal from the field area
  • Match suspensions
  • Tournament expulsion
  • Reporting incidents to governing soccer organizations

Tournament officials and referees have final authority regarding match conduct and field-related decisions.

Commitment to Positive Soccer Experiences

The Welland Soccer Club believes youth soccer should provide players with opportunities to compete, learn, grow, and enjoy the game in a safe and respectful environment.

By participating in the 2026 Wizards Rose Festival & Tournament, all teams, players, coaches, parents, and spectators agree to uphold the values and expectations outlined in this Code of Conduct.
